I received a great package from PureOath today.  I sent her a bunch of poems with my questionnaire and she picked out a few of the Ginsberg poems.  One of the ones I had chosen was Howl, which is long-winded and full of not-work-safe language, but I absolutely adore this first stanza:

Angel-headed hipsters burning for the ancient heavenly connection
to the starry dynamo in the machinery of night.

She totally got the feel for this in my package!

Here is a beaded necklace and a lined Ginsberg inspired notebook titled The Machinery of Night.  It is so nifty and will come in handy.  On the top of each page, she wrote a phrase from some of the poems I listed.  I think I might have to introduce this idea to my writing group.

These are some wonderful notecards with part of the quote on them.  She left out the 'angelheaded hipsters'. Smiley  So pretty!  Each has a shiny bit on them as well.

PureOath threw in some great earrings as well.  Each is unique and most are stones with embellishments with the metal bits.  Is the white one a stone as well?  I'm pretty sure it is but I couldn't tell.  I love rocks.

And last is this great tote bag!  It will come in handy and is a great way for sharing my favorite poetry.

Thank you so much for an awesome swap!

I'm glad you liked your package Liralen! Those white ones are also stones. All of the gemstones used in your necklace and earrings came from the same mix lot!

Gigglygirl sent me an amazing package. Everything inside it was so awesome.

The fabric she used for the T.S. Eliot purse and coin purse is awesome, and is representative of the Wasteland's dark theme and feel. ( I love damask.)

And this memory board is so awesome! It's got pictures of e.e. cummings' wife and artwork with some of my favorite poems.

I got spoiled!

Thanks for posting so fast! I hope you like the purse. That fabric proved a bit more challenging to sew than I anticipated. It's spot clean by the way.

Ooh, some people have received already. Cool stuff.

I think my favorite is the "Machinery of Night" journal. What a great idea.

The T.S. Eliot purse is beautiful too, and the ee cummings memory board I love as well.

I knew this was going to be be a great swap.  Smiley

Oooh gorgeous stuff so far!

PureOath, I love how you took just that one line and did so much with it. "the starry dynamo" totebag is pretty awesome; did you use bleach pen? Those notecards and the jewelry are really pretty too. But my favorite is also "the machinery of night" notebook, and I love that there are different quotes inside. Liralen- you got spoiled! Smiley

Gigglygirl, the fabric you chose for the purse and coin purse is lovely, and I like the embellishments you used. The colors in the memory board are so pretty and I love the bits you tucked in it. I'm seriously jealous, PureOath!

Sure did. It was a surprisingly fun project. I made like 3 more of them afterwards.

I was totally spoiled!  I was wondering if it was bleach, but it was very controlled.  I'm going to have to seek out one of those as well!  Now I just have to wait for Gigglygirl to receive her package...

I received a lovely and clever craft package from Liralen featuring a bunch of crafts I don't do myself--which is just great fun.

I'll show you my favorites first:

a lovely single-strand beaded necklace. The beads are all shades of blue just like shimmery little raindrops. One of my poems was-There will come soft rains by Sara Teasdale. I love this necklace.

If you have better photos Liralen, please post!

Next she sent me a poetry journal that I'm pretty confident she bound herself. The poem on the front is by Langston Hughes. I also love this!

I sent Liralen a few refrigerator magnet poems I had scratched together about my vibrant, sassy 2-year-old daughter Ella and my congenial, sweet 9-month-old son Noah. She knitted me some stuffies to represent each.

The sun is for sweet little Noah and the clouds are for my "stormy beauty" Ella. Cute, huh?!

There's more to come in a second post ..

In some of our PMs we discussed our love of vintage, recycled crafts.  Liralen made me some clever little recycled bookmarks, two shimmery little swallow magnets and this great little piece of artwork.

My daughter Ella really loved this swap package. Here's an action/tantrum shot when I told her she couldn't have everything because this was for mommy. Smiley

Finally, I mentioned to Liralen that I keep a shelf of crafty fun next to my nightstand. My husband's a bit of a muted minimalist, which collides with my messy, creative, colorful state of mind. To keep the peace, I keep all my little bits that I make, receive and find at thrift stores here. I've added the sun, the swallows and the little artwork to my collection. I might let my daughter play with the clouds for a bit.

Thank you for the thoughtful package. This is my last substantial swap for the summer and it's nice to go out feeling happy.

(This was my original memory board for Pureoath. I decoupaged pages from old books onto cardboard. I turned out cool but I was worried it was a bit too lumpy so I decided to redo with fabric.)

Okay, I am madly in love with the swallow magnets! Too pretty- and recycling makes them even better! The little picture is cute too, are they both made with candy wrappers, Liralen?

The necklace is pretty and is definitely reminiscent of raindrops, and I love the journal. The stuffies are really neat, and look great added to your shelf o'craftiness. And I don't know about you, gigglygirl, but I can never have too many bookmarks- mine appear to grow legs and vagabond mindsets after spending time in my books!

I'm so glad you like everything, Gigglygirl!  I had a lot of fun making everything for you.  Yup, I bound the book.  I think I do more of that than the person who taught me now. Smiley

And yes, the magnets and pictures are made with candy wrappers.  They are just too pretty and shiny to throw out so I have a stash at work.  My boss has a candy dish.  The wrappers are glued onto old FedEx envelopes, and then for the magnets it was glued onto freebie magnets that are handed out everywhere.

That's some great crafting Liralen. Those bird bookmarks are a great idea for recycling, so colorful and pretty. I also like the crocheted sun and cloud. I had the notion to do something with crochet but I didn't have time to experiment. I know you had to have made those patterns yourself. The hand bound journal is amazing! I've always loved that Langston Hughes poem.

And gigglygirl, your swap self is a great idea as well. I'm going to consider getting something like that for my place Smiley

Thank you very much.  I have a huge stack of recycled bookmarks at home since ours always seem to go missing and my son and I read constantly.  It's a good way to recycle when our town doesn't have a recycling program.

Actually, the sun and clouds came from this site: http://imaginarywardrobe.blogspot.com/2008/09/amigurumi-sun.html  I was searching for inspiration and found patterns. Smiley

All the packages so far have been amazing.

It really is. Our town used to have a recycle program but they dropped it a few years ago.I like the colors in the bookmarks and the unusual shape. Bookmarks always come in handy.

And thanks for the link to the crocheted sun and clouds. I think I'll try my hand at making those, they're so cute.

Oops, sorry Strwbry- I'm updating everyone now. Smiley I did receive a wonderful package from StrwbryMlkmmmmmm ya'll, and I'll post pictures tonight. This was a hectic weekend for me!

And Liralen and Mellifluous, I can't believe that recycling isn't available where you both live- that stinks! I complain because there are a lot of things that can't be recycled through our program (like plastic other than #1 or #2), but I guess I'm lucky to have what is available!

They used to have one in my hometown, but it didn't last very long.  There is still a 'recycling center' both in my town and hometown (ten miles away) but they are mostly for cans.  In my hometown, they have some building in the back somewhere where people can bring newspaper and cardboard and such.  But now they charge $2 for it and I'm never sure where I'm supposed to go.

That's what happened here too. They had one for a short time but the city decided it was too expensive. They have a recycling center that takes plastic too, and it's not far from my house, which is good. It's just the gathering and transporting that's a pain.

I received a beautiful and thoughful package from StrwbryMlkmmmmmm on Friday, but am just now getting around to posting pics. (Sorry, SMMmmm! Smiley )
Here's all my goodies together:

And the shadowbox, with an excerpt from Mary Oliver's The Faun:

She made me three pretty notebooks, with these wonderful images:

Please, click on the thumbs- the images she used are so gorgeous and pair perfectly with the poems!

This book mark was inside that last one:
She and I both love She Walks in Beauty by Byron, and she made me this lovely tote:

And last, my favorite item- this coaster set with images and lines from My Heart Soars by Chief Dan George:
The beautiful pictures are on the front:

And words on the back:
The only problem is that the coasters are too beautiful to use! I already threatened my guy with bodily harm for even thinking about putting a glass on one!
She was also kind enough to send me some extra copies of the lovely pictures that I have crafty plans for.
Thanks so much, StrwbryMlkmmmmmm, I absolutely love it all!

What a great package StrwbryMlkmmmmmm. You did an excellent job crafting for the selected poems. The shadow box with the fawn is beautiful. I love the images and poems on the notebooks and coasters. Where did you get them? And the design on the tote is cool. I've always liked that poem too.

I received from Mellifluous a week ago, but I just got my camera back. So here's my package:

The whole lot together: a pillow with a satin back, a coaster, a book of Tennyson poems, a notebook with my initial (my first name is Erin), a set of sticky notes (which I always need) and three magnetic bookmarks.

A close up of the pillow (from Renascence by Edna st Vincent Millay). It's not a very good picture, because it's so detailed!

A Lady of Shallot Coaster:

A close up of the notebook and bookmarks (which are SO me!):

I also received a poetic note:

"Here's a little something
For all the quiet times
When in vacant or in pensive mood
Upon your couch you lie

May this pillow
with the words of Ms. Millay
Bring you bliss in solitude
And brighten up your day

And for those flights of fancy
When you ponder Camelot
Or the strange and tragic fate
Of The Lady Of Shallot

I offer you this coaster
So that as you sip your tea
You may lose yourself in
Tennyson and his great poetry

It's been so lovely crafting
These little gifts for you
I hope you quite enjoy them
And find them useful too."

Thank you Mellifluous!!

I'm so glad you like everything Erin. With all the lovely stuff everyone else got I hoped you wouldn't be disappointed. Unfortunately cross stitch is very labor intensive but I love the finished product.

There are so many great poems out there it was hard to choose a few favorites. I have a new favorite in Renascence, which I hadn't read before, so thank you for that.  Smiley

Thanks everyone. Smiley The quote on the pillow says: "The world stands out on either side, no wider than the heart is wide. Above the world is stretched the sky, no higher than the soul is high." It's become one of my favorite quotes.

I was hoping my package might have made it by this weekend but no such luck. Maybe tomorrow. *crosses fingers*

I received a wonderful swap package from Staar84 on Friday. Everything is so well crafted. I especially like the Raven embroidery which is somewhat wrinkly in the pictures but will look awesome on my wall when it's framed. So, without further ado, here are my goodies!  Smiley

First up is a series of magnets with two of my favorite poems, "Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost and "suppose" by e.e. cummings. They were made line by line so I can mix and match them when on display.

This is the last three lines of "suppose". Even in the daytime the light isn't too good in here so I tried to improvise, but I'm afraid they're a bit blurry.

Then I got two notecards with another favorite "Daffodils" by Willam Wordsworth.

The best part here is that the lines of the poem are on the flower petals. Just a perfect way to share this great poem.

But best of all is this awesome embroidery of "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe. You all should see thise stitches, so tiny and neat. Simply incredible!

I also got a book of the Best Western Poems, which I've been enjoying this weekend.

Roses are red
Violets are sweeter
This amazing swap package
Just couldn't be neater!

Thanks for everything Staar, I love it all!
