Some friends of ours recently bought their first home, and I wanted to give them a personalized housewarming present. Of course, I waited until the last minute, so I had to come up with something cute, but simple to make, and the idea for these coasters was born!  I really like the way the Daddy coaster came out, and I thought it would be fun to make a coaster set of bearded and mustachioed men.
The appliques are ironed on (I use Lite Steam-a-Seam2) with some detail machine-stitching around the edges.  Then french knots for eyes and hand-embroidered lips.  The coasters are three layers--flannel between the cotton.  I *think* I started out with a 4.75" circle and they ended up about 4.5" inches.  I didn't measure the final pieces and they are already in their new home Smiley

Adorable! What a wonderful idea! The fabrics you used are so nice, too. A quilt with family faces like this or a mustached man quilt would be so totally cool! Great job Smiley
