I love the colors you chose for this quilt, and I think the quilting makes it look more playful.  You're not the only one to worry about washing a completed quilt for the first time.  I finished my first quilt in May of 2009, gave it to the recipient (my husband) in May 2009, and just got around to washing it this past weekend (April 2010).  The others are correct, though, when they say that washing helps to hide/disguise the mistakes...

I think it looks beautiful and I really like the idea of giving the rest of the detergent to the parents, that stuff can be expensive for new parents!

Thank you all for the kind words and continued support and encouragement.

Dare I say...I think I might go shopping for quilt fabrics this weekend?!?! If you had seen me during the quilting process you wouldn't have ever believed I would utter those words!!

That looks wonderful!  You did a great job!  I just made my first quilt a few months ago.  I washed it (and all of my own baby's clothing) in clear detergent.  I'm sure it will wash just fine.  I was terrified that it would fall apart after all my hard work but it turned out great!  I'm sure yours will too!
