jiasaykea avert your eyes!

I've always wanted to craft my own tarot deck but it seems like such a daunting task (so many cards!) but I jumped when I saw the 'craft a tarot card swap'. Anywho, I crafted a card for my partner and I liked it so much that I made a replica for myself... I did the same thing with the second card. I finished a third card for myself yesterday and went ahead and made a match for that one too since I was on a roll.

The first part of a Tarot Deck is called the Major Arcana and is all about the journey of "The Fool" and the people he meets along the way. There's a load... and I mean a giant mountain... of symbolism in the cards and I tried to incorporate as much as I could while making them my own... though I did let quite a bit slip  Wink

Instead of a crown of 12 stars I gave my Empress 12 pearls of wisdom. She also has a heart shaped locket instead of a shield and although her dress isn't covered in pomegranates there's a wee picture of one in her locket.

The Hierophant is also called the Pope or the High Priest in some decks. I took this fella from a group shot of priests that I have in my collection of old photos. The Hierophant is someone who gives sound, solid, practical advice.

The star is probably my favourite so far because I managed to get a load of the traditional card symbols in. The water being poured, the bird, the seven stars representing the chakra points.

I've really enjoyed making these cards but I'm sure about making an entire deck just yet  Kiss

Wow I really, really love them (in fact I hit this rocks!).I also checked your profile and saw all the really great altered art/mixed media projects you've done.

What do you plan on doing with your deck when you're done, they look a little too dimensional to be shuffled easily and used for tarot readings do you plan to frame them or display them somehow or will you actually use them to do readings?

Thanks!

I probably won't be using them for readings for a long long time... it would take me ages to make the whole deck.  If I did somehow manage to get through all the cards I'd likely just use a scan of the cards for readings. For the time being they'll probably sit around for a while... I might frame them in groups if I get a few more under my belt.
