Do you like the strange and wonderful creations of Yohji Yamamoto and Comme Des Garcons? Is black the new black? Have you got mad tailoring skills you want to share?

What I have in mind is a swap based on the truly weird designs of the Japanese avant garde... one large with about 2 months of crafting time. Any takers?

I love the idea, but I would have no clue as to what to make. Are you thinking we'd be making a clothing item or accessories? I haven't ventured into making people sized clothing yet, so some avant garde inspired accessories would have to be my thing.

this sounds GREAT! very unique. I agree with the last poster, I think accessories would be the easiest thing to glam-up... and less worries about sizing and such.

What other kinds of things did you have in mind??

I was really hoping for actual clothes. Thus, the suggestion of making one large item. with a long crafting time for the timid. The wonderful thing about avant garde is that if you make a mistake, you can just say that was how you meant it to be. It's art, so normal rules don't apply. There's all kinds of stuff out there with distressed seams and holes in funny places. Also, a lot of it is fairly baggy, which gives a lot of forgiveness in sizing.

That said, if you guys want to do high fashion accessories, then let's do that.

On the questionnaire, we could specify what it was you wanted to do, clothing or accessories, and we could match up that way. Also a bit about which designers you like so folks with similar tastes could get together. Does that seem reasonable?

I like this idea, but not really as a swap.  Maybe a Craft-along sort of thing?  I make my own cloths, but never made anything for some one else, and I would afraid of  it not fitting well since you can't do any fittings, especially for couture clothing, and items that are finely tailored.

I'm all for a craft along though, show progress, croquis sketches and such.  Or even couture accessories too.
