I recently bought Cal Patch's book 'Design-it-yourself clothes. Patternmaking simplified' and I was dying to try it out and make clothing from scratch  Smiley.
Drafting the pattern wasn't as easy as it looked and it took a few tries to get it right but now I'm quite happy with the result. Here's my first project, a simple dress:

The fabric is a super nice light blue poplin. It was all sewn on my vintage treadle sewing machine (except for the buttonholes and inside seam finish).
I screwed up a little on the sleeves and the neckline and I hope with my next project it will turn out better!

Here's the finished pattern:

I have a longer post on my blog about is as well: http://tidytipsy.wordpress.com/2010/03/15/dressmaking-my-first-dress/
I can really recommend the book, I loved learning to make patterns and it teaches you to make a lot of variations as well!

Thanks for looking!
Kristina

Wow you're brave to attempt pattern making.  I must admit its on my to-do list, but I keep putting it off.  Even though you say this is a 'simple' dress, you've got a lot of features in there.  It looks lovely.  Congrats !

I think the dress is really good. If I ever sewed anything, it definitely wouldn't look that good.

Thank you all! It's really not that difficult, the book describes it all really well!

This is gorgeous. I've been wanting to start patternmaking and this had given me just the inspiration I needed and I think I'll buy that book too!  Smiley
