Here in Central Texas we call them Cascarones because primarily they come from Mexico and that's what is written on the carton.   However, I made my own, we drained out the egg goop, then dyed/decorated, filled with birdseed and closed them up with colorful tissue paper.  Then we got to smash them all over each other.  Good times!

Action shots would have been great and most probably funny. The bird seed is a great idea... I will have to try this next year. Smiley

Ohhh- I like the idea of bird seed instesd of glitter/confetti - less clean up!

Here's a pic of the ones  I helped my oldest daughter do this year - we only made 9 in all since we got a late start - these were painted, obviously, and not dyed - which would have been easier. Plus, we only made the holes on the bottom pea sized - which was more frustrating than cracking off the bottom part as normal. The hubby asked for a luchador and pancho villa one, for whatever reason. He got them, but... Huh

I love that you're using birdseed in yours!  No trash--just a snack for the birdies!

I love the idea of birdseed. I'm planning on making these for an outdoor party and I will definitely be using your idea.
