Hi!  This was my first attempt at anything stitching related.  I wanted to make something for my husband and he really isn't a hat/scarf person and it had to be something interesting to keep my attention.  We just happened to watch Fight Club a while back and inspiration struck!

(Favorite picture of it's progress)

Just keep stitching...

Coloring details in.  (I wish I would have just done the people.  Sad  Oh well.

All done, before framing...

i think you did a great job!  I think the tinting looks awesome, it's fine that you didn't just tint the people.  You were pretty brave to tint the linen after you have done your stitching.  i really like that the flames are the only thing filled in with stitches, it make for a nice touch.  keep up the good work.

Is this technique just called "stitching"? I want to try it so bad. I don't know where to get started, but tools I need or what. If you can point me in the right direction please let me know! Books or websites would be wonderful. Thank you in advance!

It's embroidery. There are great books and websites you can check out. If you do a search and type in Embroidery how to, you will find lots of choices.

To be perfectly honest, I have no idea what stitches or techniques I used.  This was my first embroidery project and the only thing I looked up before starting was about the fusible interfacing and also the quasi-satin stitch for the flames.

I was lucky enough to do a swap with a dear friend that got me started supply-wise.  Gold needles were a lifesaver with my metal allergies.
