Do you think old boxers would work for this project or would staying with stretchy material be best?  Do you have a pattern?

I say go for it!  If anything, the underwear I used was TOO stretchy. That made it hard to make even stitches.  And any pattern will do!

I'm thinking of making a girlie version. Do you think g-string elastic would be too stretchy for this? I was thinking it'd be great because it wouldn't need cutting.

That's just wonderful! My guy wears silk boxers a lot; I'm sure he won't mind sacrificing them for the sake of craft. And just think, silk darn would be soooo oooh-la-la!
