I came up with this pattern while visiting my future in-laws.  My fiance's dad was in the hospital and had just been diagnosed with cancer.  The whole family was there to support him, including his two granddaughters, L (7), and E (3).  When I was about L's age, my parents got divorced.  My favorite aunt made me a knitted doll to keep me company, and she was the best gift I ever received.  So with that in mind, I whipped out my knitting and came up with this pattern.  The girls told me what colors to use and what they should look like.  By the end of the trip, L had conned me into teaching her and was avidly knitting away new accessories for their dolls.  To this day, whenever I see the girls, the first thing they do is rummage through my knitting bag to see what new treats I've brought them.

Since then, I've been making the dolls for whoever might need a pick-me-up.  Or sometimes as a "just because" gift.  They're very quick to knit up, and the possibilities are endless.

The Originals

Gothic Lolita

Without the Skirt

Mermaid

Dancer

Rainbow Dancer

Leprechaun

Country Girl

Pink Princess

Blue Princess

These dolls are remarkably sweet Smiley I'm sorry to hear about your fiance's dad's ill health, and I'm sure that these dolls have brought loads of comfort in what is such a trying time.

They're amazing! How I'd like to try a few... but my knitting skills are a tad shaky. You probably just improvised the pattern... but if not - do share! Smiley
