Oh wow, that is stunning!  And weirdly, my first thought when I saw the thumbnail was that it reminded me of Hokusai!  I was watching a programme about him on telly last night though, so he was already in my thoughts... I love Hokusai.

Lucinda--do what I did--get the book Accidental Landscapes and try her techniques. I branched out from her methods on this quilt a bit--but it really is my first one and it turned out--well you can see.

But the basic technique I used of cutting curves with a rotary cutter, then turning under the top bits a quarter to an eighth an inch and then top stitching those curved pieces to a background piece--is quite simple.

Just try it. I think you can do it--you just have to start thinking in terms of shape and color, not objects. Don't see a landscape with trees, mountains and a lake, see shapes of different colors and values of color. It makes it much simpler--and less frightening.
