I was in a stash busting mood and thought of making some toys out of it, and here it is!  I enjoy doing it and I think I'll make a few more for some kids.

It has got legs too, but I think they are too tiny...

OK, here's the tutorial:
Cast on 14 sts
Row 1: Increase (K1 f&b) into every sts  [now 28 sts]
Row 2 and every even number row: purl
Row 3: *knit 1 st, Increase (k1 f&b) 1 st* [now 42 sts)
Follow stockinette pattern for another 25 rows
Row 29: *k1, k2tog* [now 28 sts]
Row 31: k2tog till end [now 14 sts]
Do not cast off.  Join another color and follow pattern from row 1

For antena and legs, I've followed the pattern exactly from here:

This looks like it would be fun and not too hard to make. I want to get into toy making, but i'm a little intimidated. Your caterpillar is really cute, please post a tute for us!

Thanks for the tute! I really like your modification of the original with the segment shaping, really nice. I think the antennea and face are really cute, but I agree that the legs could be thicker. Maybe a little length of 4-stitch I-cord instead of crochet? He kinda doesn't even really need legs, he can just be a colorful worm.

oooohhhh...he's so cute!  I bet it would work with some polka dots or stripes, too.  Did you knit in the round or sew up a seam?  I have so many scraps of great yarn; what a great use for them!  Thanks
