The dress is beautifulllllll ! I especially love the fullness of it with the petticoat...how did you make it, pretty please? I also have a soft spot for 50's dresses but still haven't had the guts to make a petticoat...any pattern suggestion for the petticoat?
Thanks and well done!  Shocked

the black (think it's called piping?) is a great finishing touch, really it adds a professional feel that your original basis didn't have. looks like something straight from anthropologie.it's beautiful

aw, thanks so much everyone! It seems Im not the only one who wishes to be transported back to the 50s!  Cheesy

I didnt use a pattern for the skirt - its just a circle skirt, but I drafted a really simple bodice pattern which was about 5 pieces. The petticoat I made with a rectangle of fabric and a long length of net. I folded the net over not in half so that it was layered and then sewed a big running stitch along the length (i think it was about 3 metres or so) and then gathered it all up til it was the length of the regtangle. I then sewed it onto the fabric (not even particularly neatly - its only going under stuff after all!) and sewed a casing at the top to thread the elastic though. Voila!

It only took 2 metres of fabric so I really want to make more now!

Awwww, I was just about to make this EXACT dress. Same fabric and everything, but you beat me to it! Hahaha, at least now I know it will turn out nice, I wasn't so sure if I would like it or not. :]
