These are my cherry blossom sushi plates fresh out of the kiln. I am *very* pleased with the results! It's difficult to tell, but the bottom white sheet of glass is opalescent and oddly, one of the two plates (made from the same pieces of glass) decided to bubble a little, but in a very fetching way. Again, you probably won't be able to see this in the photos.

The set:

The non-bubbly one:

The one that bubbled a little:

Thank you for all the kind comments! @Weez--I was inspired by the beautiful cherry trees in nearby Washington DC that were graciously donated by the Japanese many years ago.

These plates turned out so well that I'm thinking about making some larger plates, too.

They are *WOW* beats my sakura painted on a mug.
Are you going to use them? I'd be so scared of breaking them!
Are you making a whole set? That would be cool... a teapot too... that sounds really difficult!

@~Otherside27~: Thank you! They're going to be a bridal shower present for my step-daughter. I bought some beautiful chopsticks with cherry blossoms on them to match.

I'm envisioning using this design for some other plates, but a teapot would be far beyond my skills as a glass fuser. I would probably have to learn glass blowing first to accomplish that!

Those are so cool! I am way intimidated by the idea of working with glass, so I admire anyone who can come up with something like this!

@TechnicolorAquahearts: I made these in class and it wasn't that hard. My first step was to full-fuse the opalescent white and clear base plates together, then I used mosaic cutters to chop up the pink for the flowers and the red/brown for the stems. I then glued them into place and then the plates went into the kiln for a dimensional fuse. Last step was slumping them into sushi plate molds.
