My friends from high school have two kids, and their youngest is close to my son's age. His second birthday party is this weekend and I completed his present this week. His dad is a junior high school science teacher so I made his son a science themed name book!

Cover:

K is for Potassium (on the periodic table of elements), A is for Atom:

Y is for Y-chromosome, L is for Light:

E is for Earth, B is for Beaker (These are my favorite pages, I love the colors):

Back Page:

The main material for the pages is recycled denim that I got from old jeans one of my friends passed on to me an idea I got from this tutorial. And I am a follower of the Ex Libris Handmade blog and her handmade books are always so inspiring. I came up with a design that worked for me and my purposes and I'm so pleased with the results.

Be blessed and thanks for looking!

Great book!  Thanks for the links and the tutorial link.   I'm expecting a baby and I think I would like to make a fabric book for her down the road.

This looks great, and is well thought out! I'm sure they'll all love it!   How much of this is hand stitched, and how much is done with a sewing machine? I'm presuming the zigzag stitch around the larger letters is done with a sewing machine, but mine never turns out quite this nice when I do it.

All the applique I did on my machine with a satin stitch setting. The details were all hand stitched. (Such as the atom's electron rings, and the fillament in the light bulb.)

Thanks for your great comments!
