Even though it has been a year now since I moved in, my walls are still somewhat bare. I wanted to decorate them with art, and was then struck with this idea. I love all things pirate, I also wanted it to be slightly feminine (but still awesome), hence the non-traditional colours, and the differences in the positioning of the checked fabric was intentional:



The banner is made from lined fabric, and has a thin piece of dowel inserted between the fabrics at the bottom to add a bit of weight - to help keep the shape. The dowel that is at the top has been painted black, because it looked much better!

Here's what I think...I think I have finally found what I am going to do in my kids room! We took the closet doors off and intended to hang curtains but never got around to it. This is BRILLIANT!!! One kid is totally into skulls and the other is into girly stuff so this idea is perfect! Great job!
