Alright! So I've not really posted much before, but let's get right into it. I'm applying for the fall semester at Ryerson University in Toronto, so these are the dresses I sent to them in my application in February (yikes took me long enough!)

This first one is my own design, done from a basic pattern block.

And yes, this photoshoot was done outside, standing on a skating rink and snow, at -20 plus windchill. yay Canadian winters!

Very titanic-esque I've been told.

This gives you a better idea of the godets inserted to make the skirt more full. A two foot train is hard to add when you've never done it, and don't have any guides to go from.

The real drama of this piece is the back, or lack there of. I had fun shaping it, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

On to the next piece. This pattern is entirely self drafted, made straight from my measurements. the seams point dramatically down from the waist to the hips, with a front pleat and contoured bodice. Lovely burgundy damask. Let me know if anyone wants the pattern?

And here's the bodice. It doesn't wrinkle, it was just hard to sit right off a body.

Last but not least, this was also an art project. I hand bleached the brick design into some broadcloth, then made the stencils and painted those on with a lightweight acrylic. I then splattered neon colours all over it. This is definately one of my more dramatic pieces.

And the outside shot.

The stencils are of a bandana wearing teddy bear, and my name, Kat, if you were wondering.

Thanks for looking, C&C always appreciated!

I really like the third one. Is that your own pattern too? It would look great on my daughter.

The color and the draping on the first dress look great on you. I like how you styled the second dress with the black gloves and the third with the blue pumps. I think these are great portfolio pieces!!

Beautiful!  The long dress is just lovely in the snow, so dramatic.  I'm interested in the pattern to the damask dress if you can post it.

The white one would make the most perfect winter wedding dress!  My colors were really dramatic black and red, so this totally stole my heart.  You're amazing to be able to sew things like that from your own patterns!  I just made a pair of pj pants and was so proud I danced around in them for two days, could barely contain myself.  I can't even IMAGINE having your kind of talent!

I really like both of the other dresses as well, especially the third one, but that first one is breathtaking.  Hitting This Rocks right now!   Cheesy

Wow, all these dresses are so pretty!! Good luck with your application Smiley

I love that red dress the most, by the way. I'll be showing it to my mom, maybe she can make something similar for me for a school reunion later this week!

Very good!
My sister was at Ryerson for fashion design, and she had a similar portfolio pic like your first one. Even if its based on a pattern, they want to see if your able to pull it all together. Also she had some good original design sketches...
That being said, I think you have a really good chance of getting in! Be forwarned, my sister had to work very long hours on drafting and putting patterns together. She had more schoolwork than I did, and I was in honours chemistry! Anyway she eventually left because she realized she didn't like the sewing part that much.
I really hope the best for you....its a really neat program to take!
Good luck Wink

Let me know if anyone wants the pattern?

Uhm, yes please!  That's gorgeous!  Very sharp and dramatic, but also feminine.  I am seriously in love with that really dramatic pleat right in the middle.  I would love to make one of my own based on your pattern, if you really do feel like sharing!  Cheesy
