Here is a little gnome I did last night, it is my first attempt at a gnome. He is done on a page from a mickey mouse book and matted in white with a black frame I had lying around. Was hard to get a good picture because the glass in the frame kept reflecting my flash.

This is hanging on the wall and I tried taking the pic from a sideways angle but still got a little glare.

It's all free handed and was done on the fly with sharpies markers.

Inspired by the many gnomes I have been looking at lately around the net and the traditional gnome stories (like David the gnome) and of course my need for art work on my bare walls. He certainly isn't perfect but for drawing a gnome for the 1st time he isn't too bad. I like the thin black sharpy lines throughout the whole thing I think they add a certain interest and energy to the picture.

C&C welcome

I LOVE him. He's so great. I love the strokes inside the circles on the mushroom for some reason!

Thanks everyone Smiley so glad everyone else likes him too. I am enjoying the style with the sharpie lines so much I went out and got a few more sharpies today so I can experiment with other subjects. I saw a stamp somewhere out on the net (I think maybe etsy?) that had a cool gnome so I just tried to draw one kind of like it and add my own touches like the mushroom and the grass and the way its drawn with all the lines. I remember when I was in highschool I really liked doing pointillism drawings too so I may try one with dots too.

Right now I am working on a dinosaur similar to the gnome style for a little boy (he's 5) I babysit sometimes, he seems to be here everytime I get a swap package and always gets excited thinking the package could be for him and then sad when it isn't (though I do occasionally let him play with or take a couple things like when my whimsy package came). I remember being a kid and being so excited when I got mail addressed to me (who am I kidding I STILL get so excited lol) so I promised him I would make him something and send it to him in the mail he loves dinosaurs and trains so I figured I'll make him a stuffed train and a dinosaur picture and it will make his week.

The inside circles of the mushrooms are also my favorite parts FoxyBlue, I am not sure why either but they and the left most blades of grass are my favorite parts.

Anyway thanks for the kind words everyone, I liked him but its always hard to judge your own work especially when its a first try sort of deal.

Maybe because it kind of reminds me of the illustrations in Where the Wild Things Are. At any rate...love that drawing of yours. It's fantastic. I've been feeling kinda gnomy lately, too. I think I feel some inspiration coming on!
