Fiber Friday -- March 19, 2010

It's midnight where I am, so let's get some Fiber Friday goodness going! I have many pictures I need to take, but here's the one I actually have on my computer right now:

It's some of the last handspun I did on my drop spindle, plied on my spinning wheel I received shortly after I finished drop spindling it. 100% Tussah silk, 100 yards, the green is hand-dyed. Incidentally, that's some of my first dye-work. It came out well, I thought, although I still have about 3/4 of a gallon of the dye left, and my fingers were stained for days afterward.


I am working right now on turning it into fingerless mittens, which is to say I have the cuff of one mitten done.

Merino wool sunrise batt...not exactly sure how much is there. I only had an ounce and a half to spin. It's beautiful though!

mmmmm sexy yarns ladies!  I'll be finishing up a couple yarns this weekend hopeully, so I'll likely have something to show next week.  It's nice to have incentive to finish it, My aunt wants some of my yarn to make a scarf!! woo!

I have singles that are just sitting there staring at me asking to be plied, but of course now it has to wait until my spindle is free lol.  Good reason to go buy another spindle

My first contribution to Fiber Friday!  WOOT!!  I know the pics aren't very good, but I thought it's better to post something than nothing, in the spirit of keeping Fiber Fridays alive!

It's 3 oz of BFL, which I spun on a drop spindle then dyed with Kool-Aid.  I used 4 pkgs of black cherry and sprinkled on 1 pkg of regular cherry.  None of the pics show the color well, it's kind of a coral red.  I had about 130 yards of it.  The last pics show the cowl I made from it.  I made up the pattern as I crocheted along.  The cowl has a drawstring with flowers at the ends, so I can wear it loose, or else tie it tighter on chilly days.

Nicshaf, very pretty!

Here is my current WIP.  It's merino/silk blend.  First time working with this blend took a minute to get used to it but it's spinning like a dream.  I like how it's purple as roving but is spinning into more of a blue jean coloring.

I finally finished staining and oiling my new jumbo sliding hook flyer, so this week was a big spinning week for me! I hadn't spun in a while, so I had a lot of fun.

I started the week with a small color study. I took this merino roving and split it in half. I then plied one half with a solid white merino, and the other half with solid black merino. I was pleasantly surprised at how vibrant the colors are against the black. I had assumed they would get kind of lost.

For this one I hand carded a multi-green coopworth wool with grey alpaca and a bit of white merino, then spun it woolen.


And, I have a skein of a peachy/reddish merino drying!
