LOL I don't know if I'd call it beautiful - I'm not into skulls.  Smiley  But I will say it was beautifully done - great job Chris!

Love, love, love the evolution tree!  I was an anthropology professor before I became a professional mom and am a sucker for anything that reminds me of it.  This gave me goosebumps and a big smile  Smiley

What a wonderful design and so nicely executed.  The leaves look really cool and it looks so detailed.

A couple questions:
How many strands were used?
Which kind of stitch was used in the outlines?

Thanks.

Yay!
I could not believe my eyes when I opened my package from Jolyon!
It's my kitty Link!

I tried to get her to pose next to it, but there were squirrels outside, and they needed to be chattered at. You can see her little leg stripes though.

I don't have a detail of the face bit yet (there's a big crease from being shipped) with its perfect nose, but I do have these lovely flowers:

I really love it a lot. I sort of want to make it into a pillow, but then Link will always be sleeping on it. Hmmm.

I dream of a house covered with your art, and would love a personal swap. Pm me if you'd like to spread the crafty love! I also need blue fabric scraps for a scrap quilt!

Glad everyone liked the evolution tree.  I'm a biologist and a bit of a science nerd so I love to incorporate science in my crafts.  When I read that Automaton J. was an anthropology major I knew I had to do something with that.  I did ask if she liked skulls and kinda off-the-wall patterns and am glad she said yes so I could let my imagination run wild!

As for the stitches...The tree branches are a knotted stem stitch (which gives them a bit of texture), the outlines of the skull are the outline stitch, the details inside the skulls such as the bone plates and teeth are running stitch.  Eyes are a satin stitch.  All of these were done with one strand.  The leaves are a modified feather stitch (I can't remember exactly what this stitch was called) and they were done with two strands.

Here's a pic I took before I sent...you can maybe see the stitch detail a bit more.

Amazing detail Chris!!  I love that knotted stem stitch.

Jolyon - girl you rocked that cat embroidery!  That's an amazing likeness to Link. Smiley

Pearliepie - I think Link NEEDS a pillow with that embroidery on it! LOL

honeyd - you are so spoiled! What a package!  Can't wait to see what else turns up on your doorstep!  Great job Lany! Cheesy

I am absolutely amazed at this gallery!  Ya'll have gone above and beyond!
