I've recently become a cub master for my boys' cub scout pack. While doing research for our upcoming pinewood derby, I was informed that it is traditional for the cub master to enter a car into the race, and lose. So I've recreated my 2003 Honda Oddessy to enter into the race. I will not be putting any weights on it, and I've not done anything special about the wheels and axles. All of this kind of stuff will be done to the boys' cars. This is strictly for looks. I've weighed it. It's about 3oz. The weight limit is 5oz. So hopefully the Mom Mobile will lose.

I think it's totally AWESOME when the 'grownups' get to make derby cars to. And this, this is awesome.
And I'm pretty sure it will loose too. GREAT JOB.  Tongue
(ha ha I've been around derby cars enough that I'm starting to think what you could do to make it win.)  Roll Eyes

Ha ha!! I was in the pinewood derby for girl scouts or something. Of all the cars I've seen - yours is the coolest.

Awesome!  Did you find it difficult to carve?  I'm involved with an annual Adult Pinewood Derby and it's SOOO fun to do!  We also do dioramas and costumes, plus all kinds of trash talking and mockery, which isn't very Scout-like.  I also don't care much about winning the speed contest, although last year I was second slowest out of 30-ish.  For me it's all about the craftin': Here's my entry for last year: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=315638.0 and I'm thinking of actually doing some carving on mine this year.  Luckily, our weight limit is something like 8 oz.  Smiley

I am a fan of your pinewood derby creations. I love the diorama from last year and the coffin from the year before. I had someone cut out the main shape with a jig saw, and the I carved the rest with my Leatherman, which has a file, which also helped. Then I sanded it with two grits of sandpaper and then painted, detailed and finished it with a coat of varnish. I've seen what you can do, and I don't think you'll have a problem.

Aw, thanks!  I'd like to make a chariot this year, with the big spindly wheels (+ the 4 standard wheels).  If only I had a band saw.

Having been a cubmaster myself, I learned that weight is not always a factor in winning.  It helps, though.

I made a car for our derby, and down the track it went, only to fall off the side.  I made it top heavy on purpose, and the wind caught it.  Totally embarrassing.  I was the only adult who didn't even finish the race. Cheesy

Your car looks great, though.
