I've been making these fleece hats lately, thought I'd share with you guys.
The unicorn hat was made at the request of my friend.  She helped me come up with the pattern and what to include.  I shaped the horn with stuffing and some hand sewing, the rest is by machine.

The giraffe is for me =).  I've loved giraffes since I was really little.  I remember my dad went on a business trip once and brought me back this really little stuffed giraffe.  He was about 4 inches high and could stand on his own.  I loved that giraffe so much...I don't know where he is now =(, but this hat is an homage to him.

And here's a Cal Bear hat!  GO BEARS!  I've made one of these for myself too, I plan on wearing it to next weekend's rugby game.  Mine doesn't have the cool "CAL" applique on the back...I tend to be more lazy with hats for myself.  However, mine does have some pretty rad blue and gold pompom ties like the other two hats.  (The bf thinks he's too manly for pompoms.)

Thanks for checking this out!  Please leave comments and CC =)

I love the Giraffe and the Unicorn. I think that even as a mother of kids close to being teens I would be willing to wear those. Grin Wink

Uh, I think if you're wearing a fuzzy fleece teddybear hat, manliness is no longer an issue.  I would wear the unicorn hat proudly, pom-poms and all!

Thank you everyone for your kind words!  You all have given me so much confidence in my designs, which I really need since I've just started selling these and I'm so nervous about it...thank you so much!
Those are really good representations of the animals! And they look sooo warm.

I'll definitely be wearing my bear hat to the rugby game on Saturday!  This is Bear Territory!!!

These are absolutely brilliant; I love the giraffe hat!    Any chance of a tutorial?

As I'm selling the hats in my etsy shop, I won't be posting a tutorial.  I'm sorry!  Right now my hats are pretty cheap though... Grin  Okay, no shameless self advertising.

Here are some tips I'm happy to give:
The hat shape itself is pretty simple, it's just four triangles with curved edges plus two pieces for the earflap part.  The earflap part is lined, but the main hat isn't as I thought that would add too much bulk.
As for the giraffe hat specifically, I just played around with ear shapes and sizes for awhile until I found what I wanted.  The ears are sewn into the seams of the hat and the "horns" (is that what they're called?) are hand sewn on, with mini pom poms sewn on top.  Oh, the mane is also sewn into the seams of the hat.

Please do post what you make!  I'd love to see other people's takes on these!

Haha, I tried telling him that, but he decided he didn't want the hat any more ridiculous than it already was!  Oh boys...

And this is sort of weird, but I think I saw a guy and a girl wearing hats like your Cal Bear hats on the bus in Berkeley. I remember thinking it was super cute! What a coincidence if it was you! Cheesy

squee, GO BEARS! cal senior over here  Grin I tutor some of the rugby guys so they'd probably die if I showed up saturday wearing that, but i might just have to track you down if i see you wearing it at the game! It'd be amazing if you did the lettering on the back in the cal script (although probably a lot harder to do). Anyways, I love it!

I think you will have to make more hats for your Etsy store! I really love the unicorn one, but was too late to buy it!
Would also love to see a black/brown bear hat, or a pink/white kitty hat! Smiley

I won't be posting a tutorial as I do sell the hats.  I did list some tips on page 2 for people who want to make their own hats.

I actually make each hat to order, so I've relisted the two that were bought.  I've done some other color combos for the bears, I just haven't posted them.  A pink/white kitty hat would be adorable!  I've thought of making a black/red one with whiskers, the pink/white could be its sweeter counterpart =D.

My bf is obsessed with narwhales, and I've already started making him a narwhale hat. It's based on a hat he already has, so it's a different style, but I love love love the design you have... I just don't want to cut into any of the fabric I have to try winging your design though.

He bought enough fleece that I can make myself a hat. And prolly another two more!

I'm going to go ahead and super awkwardly reply to a very old post. What can I say, I have midterms and I'm putting off studying while trying to get ideas for things to make.

But I LOVE the Cal hat. I would totally wear one and know tons of other people who would too. You could definitely sell them on Telegraph and make some money.

Yay, Berkeley person!  Thanks =)!
I have no idea how to go about selling on Telegraph though, it seems like most of the vendors are pretty established.
