Need Opinions, Quilt-Giving Etiquette?

For my birthday, my Mother in Law sent me a huge pack of coordinating fat quarters. It was a very nice gift but the fabric choices were, lets just say, not my tastes. So I made a quilt top out of them, and she said she really liked how it turned out. So my question is; would it be rude or ungreatful to give the finished quilt to her as a gift? What do you guys think?

Not at all. You include two things when you give the gift: One, you say that the gift to you was making the quilt - that's the fun part for you, and two, you say that perhaps next time you can go fabric shopping together. That undercuts the idea that next time she'll be getting another quilt back as well, but it gives the gift back to her without offending her.

I think that would be fine--just be sure you don't get her into the habit of assuming that if she picks out fabric for you, you will freely and happily turn it into a project meant for her!

like with any gift this depends more on your relationship than the quilt. 
It should be fine, and a very nice gift. 
It also might be good to include a little something else with the quilt so it in no way seems like you're simply regiftign back to her if that makes sense.
