I actually made this for a swap about three months ago, but I wanted to go into more detail than anyone really wants to read about in a swap thread!

I have a bunch of celtic cross-stitch patterns that a friend sent me years ago. They are copied from a book, but I don't remember which one!

My swap partner loved celtic things and dragons, so thought this was a perfect design:

The pattern called for the eyes to be empty/ the background fabric, but I decided to make them lime green (swappie's favorite color). I like that much better! If I made this design again, I would definitely fill in the eyes again!

I put the piece on one side of an altarcloth made of felt. I've never machine-sewn felt before and it's soooo easy to work with! I can see more felt projects in my future.  Please excuse the fold marks; I had everything all boxed up and then realized that I forgot to take pictures- doh!

and because I always have to make things complicated, I decided to make the altarcloth reversible. This is the flip side:

I love that batik fabric!!!
The tree is also felt, yay!, and it's freehand machine stitched on:

I have an unreasonable love for that little tree.

As always for me, it's not perfect, but I absolutely love this project. It was really hard to send it off to its new home!

I don't think adding the batik fabric made it complicated. The colors in that fabric are beautiful!

The eyes did need to pop. The piece would have looked incomplete without the green. Smiley

I agree with troublet.  It definitely needed the green in the eyes, And the batik is just right.
...and random minowis "OOO shiney!" moment, but I can totally see that pattern on a purse or something with the eyes done in seed beads *shifty eyes*

And the little tree is friggin aces, chowi!
Any how, gorgeous work that any swapper would SQUEE to get!
*applause*

"see, if we all thought the same way, we'd all have the same ideas.  it's a good thing to be different.  but minowis...what ARE you doing with that?"

Oh, thank you! Smiley
It did just look incomplete without the green and I'm glad ya'll agree!
And I think beads would be amazing!
