Baby shirts
«
on:
March 10, 2010 01:28:46 AM »
I just found out yesterday that I'm having a little baby boy
... I found an awesome pattern for pants for my little man
... But I was looking for a shirt pattern, something simple so I can have a few outfits for him lined up and ready to go for when he comes home
... Free though @_@, since we're getting married soon also and we're uni students as it is
So any ideas?
Oh and anyone know any pyjama patterns? Otherwise I'll just make him shirt and pants sets for bed
... ^_^...

i have two suggestions the baby kimono
http://habitual.wordpress.com/kimono/
ive made one of these for my 2 year old, it was super easy.. and im rather lazy lol so its really easy i swear.
and these baby gowns from t shirts. i think these would be great because they are made just like a onesie and you could make them shorter to be shirts instead of gowns, or make them like a onesie.
http://thismamamakesstuff.com/2008/08/tutorial-t-shirt-to-newborn-gown/
the infant gowns were just made from taking apart an existing gown so i dont see why you couldnt find one baby shirt you like the shape of and deconstruct to make a pattern. when i made the kimono for my two year old i realized when the sleeves are that tiny you dont really have to fuddle with angles and what not.
have a baby shower, i promis, you will end up with plenty of onesies and you may not even need to make shirts to go with your rockin little pants.
p.s. were expecting a little critter in september, and im really excited to make some tiny pants, im so glad you posted! and congrats.

Thanks!
I made one of the Habitual Kimono tops for him already (Out of an old pillowcase and some ribbon) it's so brilliant
!
And thanks for the other pattern, I'll have to go thrift shopping and get some nice shirts to reconstruct for him
...
I'm going to have a baby shower, It'll be so exciting and fun
! I've "borrowed" an idea I saw on Craftster a little while back. I'm getting lots of white onsies, singlets & shirts from thrift shops and I'm buying tons of fabric paint and I'm going to let my guests go mad... I think it shall be fun... Especially considering my friend was telling me about other Baby shower games which involve simulating poop...
Ooooh! What date in September is your little one due? And congratulations
!

I've used it and her blog is awesome too lots of cute and fun sewing ideas and tutorials.
this is a great tee pattern and her blog rocks as well. she did a month long event all about boys and there were tons of tutes for little boys.

im due september 18th, but im convinced it will be sooner lol. my first was a week early.
this post put me in the mood to sew and i cut out a kimono this morning lol.
id love to do the onsie painting thing at my shower ( my mom already decided i had to have one lol ) but most of the people i know are all sticks in the mud about things like that, so maybe ill just have my own onsie party with my friends or something. i know we will have a tye dye party soon, so maybe ill just scoop up a bunch of second hand onsies for that too !

Since it seems that everyone I know is having babies this year, I've been toying with baby patterns a lot, and the best advice I can give you is to go buy a cheapo baby shirt, either a gerber lap tee or just head into goodwill or the salvation army and spend $1.50 on a shirt that you like the shape of, then take it apart and use it as pattern pieces. Make sure and label the front, which part of the sleeve belongs to the front/back, etc.
The Habitual Kimono is wonderful, I will suggest putting a sewn-in snap on the inside instead of leaving it to tie, and I'm currently preferring to sew a fake bow on the outside and finish both closures with snaps, as it's much easier to keep shut that way.
I also really loved this:
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Baby-Romper-from-a-T-Shirt
, and if you buy a long sleeved tee (again, goodwill and s.a., which has half of days...), you can make pants out of the sleeves:
http://indietutes.blogspot.com/2009/11/sleevy-pants.html
. Vegbee's tute is for woven shirts, but if you use a knit pair of pants as your template, it's the same process. You can even make a yoga-style pant and leave the elastic off, which I like to do for little tummies.
Good luck, and can't wait to see the finished projects on the finished baby!
