I had a very small amount of this velvet brocade upholstery fabric left. I pieced it together, and got these two pieces out of it. I also had some dark berry colored suede, and some antique brass buttons.
Since this piece of fabric was one of my all-time favorites, I had to use the last of it up.
The purse handle is made with 2 pieces of 1/2" thick upholstery cording inside. The handles are attached with the buttons on the side. I like the suede flap, because it hides the zipper. There is a pocket , sewn into two sections, on one side of the purse.
Putting the zipper in the cosmetic bag was no easy deal. It's the first time I did that kind of zipper, and it seemed to take forever to get it right!
But, in the end, I'm happy with it!

Here's a peek at the insides. I didn't have 2 zippers that matched. Oh. Well.

That's one more board to cross off!
Thanks for looking!

What is the closure on the small bag?  Is it a crochet loop?

Upholstery fabrics make some of the nicest bags!! Beautiful colors!

It's a piece of gold trim that unravelled. I made one of those "Thread Loops", like you'd do with a needle and thread. only it was unravelled gold trim. Those buttons were in my grandmother's sewing box. I'm glad I found a use for them!

I suppose I should find those living room pics?

Thank you, Ludi! I think it's asymetrical?LOL! Why is it I wanted to use 2 S's?  I made the red stripe slightly off-center, so I decided the flap had to be off too. I just cut a slice thru for the button, and decided against adding any bead embellishments, since I didn't want it turning into an evening bag.
The bag is just a rectangle, pleated. it has no bottom seam, just a squared-off side panel. The measurements are 13" wide, without the 2" side panel, and about 8" deep. I just pleated up a few small pleats across the top. I didn't use a pattern. I did not line the suede, it's just stitched on top of the edge of the zipper casing.  The cosmetic bag measures 6.5" wide, and 5" deep. It has a wierd shape on the sides from  sewing the gusset in with the bottom curving to a point. I pinched in the top of the gusset. I had topiece the back of the cos. bag, since that was the last of the scraps!

Thank you so much! All I need is a correct top for it, and I will be able to put an outfit together. So, I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

That's exactly what I was thinking, the flap (which shall not be named because I can't spell it either  Wink) is just perfect!

That's funny! I had to double check the spelling too. It's asymetric. Why do I keep wanting to spell it the other way???
