I made this by creating a trellis type structure to hold the lights. The lights are just the icicle christmas lights. And I used bolts to fasten it to the ceiling.  It turned out different than I imagined it would, but I like it. Some of the lights blink and at night the reflections resemble firelight. What else is cool is that the light has a dimmer switch so when turned down a little, the lights look like stars. Sorry if the pictures came out too dark. And don't mind the sad plant on the right, my cat played with it and I haven't got a replacement for it yet.  Smiley

You know, I saw someone who used a coffee table (the kind with the iron base and glass top, but without the glass, obviously) attached to the ceiling and they hung pots and pans on it. The same idea could probably be used with your idea, which is ABSOLUTELY beautiful, btw. Looks so pretty!!

Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments!  Cheesy I have been wanting to do this project for a long time and once I finished it, it seemed a little out there. I'm really happy that other people like it as much as I do.

I LOVE it! I fell in love with this http://www.archiexpo.com/prod/kevin-reilly-lighting/contemporary-pendant-lamp-60576-146771.html a long time ago but can't afford the $10,000 for it and haven't got around to making it but this would be an awesome "in the mean time" project.

*ROCKS!*

Absolutely beautiful! And I love that you made it so that it is elegant on its own, but with the option of adding greenery about the edges if you want.

As soon as I hit "post", I'm going to get the DH and show him this; it might be the cure we need; we still have our Christmas tree up because we love the lights so much....

That is just AWESOME, I love it!!
I'm not very electrical, how did you attach it to any power?
I assume you used the existing power from the previous light,
but how did you do it?  I absolutely adore this!  I think this
would look great as a headboard also!  HMM, gears are cranking!!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!

My Dad helped me with the electrical part because I am horrible at stripping wire. I always cut through it. We removed the existing light. Then we cut off the plug of the xmas lights. My dad stripped the covering off of the cut end of the xmas lights to expose the wires. There's two connections, and you just twist the ends of the old and the new togther. Then we used those little plastic caps (I don't know what they are called, sorry) to cover the exposed wire or you could use electrical tape. I hope that makes sense.

This is SUCH a cool idea. I love christmas lights and use them in my apartment year around too, but mostly just around windows and doorways. I like this so much, I think I might try to make something similar to illuminate my bedroom. Awesome inspiration!!!
