Love all of the input!  It really helps us with brainstorming and planning.

We do want to find a way to keep swaps featured on the homepage because they are such an amazing and active part of the community.  We definitely want them to still get as much exposure.  We just want to bump them out of the Hot Projects area because, well, they aren't projects. Cheesy

You guys are the best!

I swap a lot here and i think it's kind of weird to say they are not projects. They arent tutorials, they arent patterns, but they are very much so projects. Crocheting isnt glassblowing. And if a swap hsppens to be hot, why would craftster deny it its proper spot among all the other types of projects?

A swap signup thread contains no projects.

I think it would be great if swaps had a standard pic that would identify them as a swap.   Then, it would be easier to filter through them in the Hottest Posts.

It would be great if swap sign-ups would do that voluntarily, but it seems like mods could add it if the person running the swap doesn't.

I've seen mods edit posts that quote pics for example.

Glad to see this topic brought up again.

A swap signup thread contains no projects.

But there are often discussions relating to 'how-to's' of the particular crafts for the swap. For example, in the new ABC inchies sign up thread there is discussion about how to make inchies, what you can cut them with, etc. Sometimes there are links to great craftster projects that are related which can give you inspiration also  Cheesy

But what usually happens is, there is a thumbnail picture and I can tell that it is, for example, something from Doctor Who, but I can't tell exactly what. Is it a painting? A shadowbox? A sculpture? So I click, and . . . nope. It is a promo photo from the show's website being used to advertise the swap. Thought I was going to see some awesome Doctor Who project someone posted, instead it's not a pic of a Craftster project at all. That's when I'm all "grr."

And to tell you the truth, the minor annoyance at that, when it happens over and over, actually kind of sours me on the whole idea of doing swaps at all. Instead of the first mental association with swaps being "Looks like a fun thing to do!" it is "Those things that trick me into clicking on them."

I guess I was just trying to look on the bright side  Wink

Don't let it discourage you from swaps, I have made some great friends on craftster through doing them, and I have been really challenged to create things I wouldn't normally have done Cheesy

I have to admit that I hardly ever come to Craftster on a regular basis any longer. I come check out the featured things once a month or so, but I used to come here every day!

Why the change? It seems that every nifty project that catches my eye on the front page turns out to be a swap. It's very frustrating.

I honestly feel the same way.

I do come and check the crochet board, but I used to love stumbling upon interesting crafts on boards that I wouldn't usually visit.  However, I don't bother clicking on the front page photos anymore.

I wish I knew a little about writing code.  I have a GreaseMonkey script for a different website that pulls the image caption so you can see it when you hover over the photo.

It would be perfect if I could hover over the images on the front page and see if it's a swap or not.
