"Wrap dress from 3 pattern pieces, darted in front and back. Back wraps around to the front for a sheath-and-overskirt look."

Pattern called for bias tape finished edges but I went crazy and decided that since I hate working with bias tape it would be *easier* to just cut the pattern twice and have it lined with the same fabric and skip the whole edging mess. Fabric is light blue men's workshirt material, very light weight and almost see-through if I hadn't lined it.

Pattern back says this is a very easy level and I'd have to agree. The darts take a while to put in but if you made it per directions (i.e., not lined like I did) then it would be pretty simple.

(the back does normally hang straight but apparently I spazzed out while taking pics w camera timer feature...)

I really like this without the contrasting bias tape!  I've never been a fan of this pattern, but I could definitely see myself wearing your version.  Good job!

Welcome to the Forums! the dress pattern is Buttrick 4790. It was actually in the title. I've not found a petticoat that works under it due to how the front is made.

I love the style but wouldn't know how to get the pattern (I live in the UK) and I'm a beginner, never even tried to us a pattern or even make something wearable.

Oh, man!  That turned out so nicely!  I've been going through a bias tape-making phase and that version might be the thing that gets me back into sewing real clothes after 20 years.  Not just costumes anymore for this T!  (maybe)

Great dress!

I've made quite a few of these, for myself and 3 for bridesmaids. I usually have to do some extra alterations - mostly darts in the bust area, but it's a great simple pattern.

Nice job!

I am in love with this dress and I'm in love with the idea of making it. I think I have the pattern buried somewhere. But I'm pretty beginner-y. Like the most complicated thing I've made is the Jordy bag with a fold-over flap and a zipper. Is this something I could make?

I'd say the hardest part of the dress (as given in the pattern's directions with the bias edging) would be doing the 3 sets of darts if you've never done darts before. The dress itself only has 3 pattern pieces. There's a little gathering when attaching the skirt back to the back yolk. Personally, I don't like working with bias tape but it's not really difficult (I just get bored/distracted).
If you're patient with yourself I think you'd be just fine. Good luck and post pictures when you get done! Smiley  (And Welcome to Craftster!)

hello! I am new to the community. Wink

I made this dress a few years ago for a contest. It is not a easy dress to make - definitely not half day project. Wink  I'd made heavy non-design related alternations to make it fit my shape, but boy those bias binding sure drove me crazy. Wink Specially I used a 1/4" binding instead of the 5/8", and my dress was fully lined.

you can check out my blog post about it if you like.

Anyways, I am happy to finally become a official member. Wink

I like the single-color uniformity.  Would be cute with the front bit of the dress as a complementary color as well.
