In honor of Craftster’s recent move to the new servers and our macaroni art sacrifices to the “server-move gods and goddesses,” we bring you the Pasta Portraits Challenge!

Your challenge this month is to craft a pasta portrait from a photo of someone.  The person in the photo can be yourself, your neighbor, a famous figure or any one person you’d like to honor in pasta!  Along with your entry, you must also share the photo that served as the inspiration for your pasta piece.  After all, we need to see the phenomenal resemblance to the original!

There are no size requirements for your completed piece, and you can use whatever material you’d like as your base (canvas, fiber board, your bedroom wall, etc.).  The portrait itself should be entirely composed of pasta in whatever varieties you prefer, and adhesive, of course.  You can color your pasta with paint, ink, dye or markers.

Here are some pasta inspirations to get your gears turning: macaroni face, Mona Lisa lasagna (say that three times, fast!), Tammy Faye noodles and spiral noodle self-portrait.

Rules:

• Post your craft during the period of Apr 1 - Apr 7 2010. No sooner.  No later.  On Apr 1 there will be a special folder created for entries.
• Voting will happen from Apr 8 - Apr 15 2010.
• Each participant can enter ONE project (Although your entry can have multiple components to it).

Originality:

It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original and has never been posted on Craftster or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, then just give credit to that project.

Prizes:

At the end, I'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner will get...

(1) their project in the Featured Projects area
(2) their project in the Craftster Blog

A question, does it have to be a PERSON? Or can it be a famous figure, even if it isn't human? Not that what I have in mind is an object or anything, but it definitely isn't human...

Yepper, that's okay!  You can prep your base however you feel necessary.  The focus should be the noodles.

Oh this is too great!  My hubby is a huge Seinfeld fan.  We just recently watched the episode "The fusilli Jerry" from season 6.  Kramer made a lovely statue of Jerry out of pasta.  Jerry: "Why fusilli?"   Kramer responded, "Because you're silly."  He went on to say he was going to make a George out of ravioli.
