This scarf or wall hanging was made for the Handwoven sock yarn contest.
It is made from knit picks bare sock yarns and hand dyed using ikat and hand painting techniques. It is a tabby weave with sculpted knotted pile. It was a slow process but it was worth the effort.

I was inspired by mould.

I hope it gets recognized I don't care about the money just being published would make my year. I wore it as a scarf to an art opening and a lot of people were excited about it.

Learned card weaving ^^

That's very interesting!
I really like the variety of techniques you used and I think it's pretty neat that your inspiration was mold...it would be scary to run into mold like that in real life though Grin
Nice work and thanks for sharing Cheesy

Wow, that is gorgeous! Love the colours and the texture is amazing. How long is it? I would love to see a photo of you wearing it. I hope you do well in the contest!

I sensed the organic vibe without knowing the inspiration, great execution.

This is an amazing project.  I love the colors and the design.  I see the mold inspiration, and I love the fuzzness.  What was the technique that you used to add the fuzz?  Do you have any "in progress" photos of that part?

I really hope that you are published, and I will be eagerly opening my handwoven magazine to look for this project.

This looks GREAT!

It is 52 inches long and 6 inches wide the fringe adds about 7 inches in width and the fringe is 5 inches long at the longest point.  These measurements are after washing.

I will have to take some photos with it on tonight.

The fringey furry part is made using a technique called knotted pile. The book "woven treasures" shows how to same with Peter Collingwood's rug technique books witch you can get for free off line. I learned it in a weaving class that I took years ago.  The photos do not show the process of knotting. It is hard to explain with words try looking for a video on you tube or a tutorial online.

Thanks!  My mom taught me to weave, so I think of it as kind of a loop with the end sticking out between to warps.
but I did find this GREAT resource online http://www.cs.arizona.edu/patterns/weaving/books.html#C

thank you very much for suggesting the Peter Collingwood book, and for the in progress photos.  I am guessing here:  you pulled out the green weft and finished the ends by weaving the fringe back into the piece?
