Thrown Pottery - First Attempt [image heavy]

I finally managed to do a thrown pottery course; I've been wanting to do pottery since primary school when my last attempt with clay resulted in a cat ashtray (don't ask, I was a weird child...and neither of my parents smoked cigarettes ). My class was six weeks, and it was definitely a case of being thrown in at the deep end.

This is the result of the six weeks (bar two slightly taller ones still being glaze fired), some turned out better than hoped, some had more unexpected result but I am reasonably pleased with this lot.


This is probably my favourite, a kind of bud vase. Its about 5cm tall  


I love this one too, its the one with the bluey green outside, because this is what happens when you melt marbles....


This one I just love the colours on the outside and the resist on the inside....


Edit 14-Mar -- Picked the last of my pots yesterday, of which I am quite proud. The glazes were still surprises, but not unwelcome one. Both pots are about 10cm high.

That looks good.  I was never able to do stuff on the wheel in art class...I did a painting project instead.

The glazes turned out awesome. You may be a natural at this since all these vessels are really nice. Did you already book another class to play with clay again soon?

Dustyfro - I do painting too, on Fridays, but that is a year long course. We started off in acrylics and are now on to oils

Belruel - go for it, its never too late....

sum1smuma - I didn't think I was a natural on the first day! I have another class that clashes with the next Saturday course, but I am thinking of swapping it for the pottery (if there is space available...pottery is so popular)

In case anyone is interested, the largest piece is the olive green bowl on the left...that is about 13cm wide and about 7cm high, whereas the smallest bowl right in front is only 7 cm wide and about 4 cm high.

These are MARVELOUS! Especially for a first attempt.  Wow.

I can't wait to try my hand at the wheel. I LOVE clay, and do some sculpting, but have not yet attempted this type thing.  The thing with the marbles was a great idea! After all, they're just glass, right?

In case any one is interested, I have uploaded a photo the last of my pots in the first post. The larger "vase" turned out well, but not quite as I had envisaged, and I love the effect on the column pot, even if it is not straight!

It was my tutor's idea, Maxxev, and one I will be stealing to use with all sorts of glass when I do my next course...
