Let's go ask Mr. Beardsley. MISTER BEARDSLEEYY!!!

So recently (about 3 days ago), I lost my job.  This just so happened to occur the week before my friend's baby shower, and I had not yet purchased her a gift.  Knowing that I would be tight on cash, I went out and got some yarn and a set of crochet needles (I guess they're called needles..?) and taught myself how to crochet.  Within 24 hours of learning how to crochet, I created this beanie for the baby, which is going to be a boy--and I'm the kind of person who likes to make baby clothing/toys/etc. a non-traditional color (because I've found the mother appreciates getting something a different color in the sea of pink or blue gifts that she would otherwise receive).

I found the tutorial somewhere online--just googled, "how to crochet a baby beanie," lol.  It's all done in single crochet, and  it took me about 12 hours on and off (mostly because, since I'm not used to it yet, my hands kept cramping up, and because I was stitching very, very slowly).

I think I did a darn good job on it, especially it being the first piece I've ever crocheted!
Please tell me what you think Smiley

Oh, me too!  Orange is my favorite color, so I figured I'd go with a few different shades of it...original, and gives my own personal touch  ^__^

Thank you!!

This is amazing, especially as a new crocheter! I've never crocheted a hat myself, never had the patience, but I'm sure your gift will be well received! I like that it's orange, too. Tongue

it looks great and you're so right about having things in other colours besides pink/blue!  I love the orange

PS - we call them crochet hooks rather than needles...and crocheters have been nicknamed hookers because of this Smiley

Thank youuu  ^___^
Yeah, it's a really really easy pattern (all single crochet), and it was very forgiving.  So, despite the fact that I KNOW I made a bunch of mistakes, you couldn't really tell, thankfully  c( :

It's okay--I'm looking for work like a madman, though.  lol
Thank you!

Most impressive!  Did you use a variegated yarn or is that multiple colors?  That's super impressive.  I've been crocheting for four years or so, and I'm still stuck on scarves.  I'm gonna work on my skills though.  And I can't get the hang of holding the yarn right, so I pick up each stitch and carry it over.  It makes me go slower than usual, and is probably a lot more work than it should be.  Oh well.  I still love crocheting.

And all y'all have inspired me.  As soon as I deposit my tax refund, I'm going out to Wal-Mart and buying some yarn. XD
