HOWTO crochet covered buttons w/ variations

I LOVE those vintage crochet buttons and as I have lots of not-so-beautiful plain buttons in my stash, I decided to turn them into something lovely! The process is really easy and can be recreated in my tutorial.

Just wondering if I can crochet around the buttons that are already sewn on... I have some shirts that seriously need some crochet cuteness...

These remind me of 1960s buttons that I have been looking for for a long time.  They are really beautiful, thanks for sharing.  I am going to have to make some - just hope they turn out as good as yours
