So I showed the site to my mom and sister and they are both obsessed! My mom is already planning a skirt made with a pair of jeans as the top and lots of scraps all the way to the floor!

She also told me to finish up my other swaps and join this one as soon as I am done, as long as my partner wants a skirt or dress apparently I can make one (with her doing most of the sewing!) and shes insisting... we'll see if I can finish the other ones by then!

Tell your mom she's not the only one that is really digging this style.  I just had to look at all the cool stuff!!  Now I am going to join this swap and hopefully I can get my sewing machine to work with me for it!

ETA, I have a vintage sleeveless dress that is all lace. It has one bad spot and is almost floor length I would like to use as a base, and I imagine it is around a size 10, no label because I believe it was hand made. I can see a lot of possibillities if I have a slim parter. I need to use it for SOMETHING.

I looked in my closet and found several skirts, lacey satiny, don't remember buying them, but what the heck.  THey would be cool bases for some thing. I even pulled out my old red velvet jacket from about 2000...  I can see me doing some wild stuff with it for me!

The heavens gave me a sign to sign up for this one even though I'm usually too busy with school!  I actually finished three out of four of my term projects this past week, and none of em are due til april.  I come on and see this on the front page, right when I'm wondering what to do with my time! That and my stash has been reaching epic proportions, I can barely walk in my room from so many Rubbermaid bins...

Don't forget you can use it for just the lace - take it apart and rebuild into something else.

oh my creative minions i can't wait to get this party started! lol...Ok one requirement I am gonna have is everyone will need to send a picture of you in the outfit! I am sorry i forgot to put it in the requirements but if you can't do this than tell me now and i will get you *unfeedbacked* I think it would be great if everyone sent a picture of them wearing their loveliess!  And if for some odd reason it doesn't fit (sometimes altered projects like this due to the massive stitching makes it shrink more than expected) you need to at least take pictures! These are alot of work and need to be shown!

I don't think that peices like these can be properly photographed just laying there, I'm sure I'm going to love what I get and am going to have the hubby take lots of pitures

Thanks, Ludi, for all the inspirational links. I really like the Lauren Shanley stuff. Which is surprising because it's so crazy colourful, but I can easily see myself wearing something like that. (The post-apocalyptic Goth stuff, not so much.)

That, and the bag of antique lace scraps I found in the storage locker today (why did I ever keep such useless bits of ratty lace?), make me inch even closer to signing up.

You're quite right to stress the need for real sewing, though, Woodland Faerie. It's one thing to make a garment out of torn scraps of decaying material, but much harder to make it hold together for more than one wearing. Theatre costumes often have to look severely worn and just about to fall apart, but a lot of work goes into making them stay exactly the same through many performances.

This seems the perfect place to post a picture of a vest I still love though alas it's too far gone to ever wear again.

The original Levi's vest is one I inherited from my partner and he wore it in the early 60's. (So it was already 20 years old when I got it.) I lined it completely to hold it together, but even that wore through and has had to be patched several times over. This is a good example of real decay as opposed to faux decay! A decade of sun and rain has done its work. Only the ironed-on BMW patch is holding it together now!
