So, I had arranged to meet up with friends to watch the Olympics together, to follow the competition where two of my friends were skating. It is a pretty long wait for us in Italy, because the competition ran from around 2am to 6am.... so I volunteered to make a cake to munch while waiting. Of course, having recently discovered marshlaloow fondant coverings and sugar paste and stuff like this... I had to give myself a theme! The idea was to make a cartoon-ish reference to my 2 friends skating in the event that night.

First, a reference: this is what my friends are wearing in their free program this season:

without the figurines, to highlight the "tracings" on the ice, and the yellow skirtboard just like the rinks....


funny pic: I used smurf shaped marshmallows to make the blue fondant... poor melting smurfs!

nice!!  that is one awesome cake, I bet your friends will love to see the pics when they get home... perhaps you should build them one as a congratulations on making it to the Olympics!
