Has anyone used acid to carve a linoleum block?  I read about it in an older craft book where they used nitric acid to slightly degrade the surface and create a sort of sandy surface.  The book was from circa 1970 though, and I'm wondering if there is a new way of doing this, or if I'm going to be making some seriously toxic gases.

Thanks!
