Painted Earring Jewelry Box

This is a jewelry box I painted with black and white acrylic paints. The box is an inexpensive jewelry box I purchased at Michael's that had been painted white a long time ago. I could never figure out what to paint on it. Since I keep only earrings in the box and I love bold patterns, I decided that an super-enlarged contrasted image of an earring would be a good fit.  

I created a stencil from an enlarged version of this iolite stud earring image: http://wildgems.com/products/Iolite-Stud-Earrings.html.

This is how I made the stencil:
1. I enlarged the image on my computer then printed it out
2. I placed tracing paper over the image and traced the outlines with a sharpie
3. I colored onto the back of the drawing with grey pastel
4. I taped the stencil to the jewelry box, then traced over the outlines with a pencil to transfer the grey pastel onto the jewelry box as a guide.

i think this is a very very cool box.  and i would love to keep my earrings in it. except i keep all my earrings in my ears. 

i love the simple yet striking graphic.  <and wanders off wondering what she can stencil with a big cool stud type earring.  the fridge perhaps? >

Hello Craftsters!

I am Sarah, the designer of Wild Gems jewelry (the iolite stud earrings that are the inspiration for this box design).  While normally I am loathe to see a design of mine copied, this seems like an innocent use of my image and it is always interesting to see another artist's interpretation.  Now wouldn't it be extra cool to fill such a box with the exact same gemstone studs ?
