Red couch confused! What color should I paint the walls?

Hello!  

So, i'm a little confused on what I should do for paint color in my living room.  I have all red couches, which I <3, but, my dining room is also RED.  So, yes, a bit of red overload right now...i'm going a little crazy.  
I want to paint the living a darker color, maybe a dark gray or a darker brown to go with the couches as well as the wall art that I made.  I need some advice, what color do you think I should paint my living room?  I cant take anymore red!  ah!  

p.s.  i also hate my couch pillows so they will be changed also.

my gut reaction is dark gray. I think that would look really good.

pull out the color from the background of your artwork- if you want to keep it up. this will frame it nicely. you could also railroad a wide stripe and it would look great. send me a pm if you need more elaboration on these ideas.

I love gold and red together. Maybe a rich warm yellow that could draw out the color in the painting. The red looks similar to the other room so it actually brings a unity to the overall look in your house. if you paint the walls yellow you could add a similar color in curtains in the dining room for a play back and forth. Just a thought.

I'd say grey as well. Perhaps a medium grey, nothing too dark or else the red will pop TOO much and it might make you irritated. You don't really want the color of the walls to match your paintings too much, otherwise they might go unnoticed because they match so well. Just a thought.

I can't tell if the room your living room leads into is green or the same color as the living room, but you could have the drapes match that green and it would work with a medium grey and the red, and also transition into the next room. My concern with grey, however, is if your living room is grey, and your hallways from the dining room is a different grey, it might be too much grey.

If you were feeling bold, you could do a deep yellow or turquoise, or a deep yellow with a grey horizontal stripe. Then the yellow and green compliment each other, the grey transitions into the dining room hallway, and you now have transitions throughout the rooms.

If you decide for a gray than use a light gray. A dark gray will make that room with the red couches look a lot smaller and I'm sure this is not what you want.
I actually like your current wall color. the pictures looks a bit darker to me than what the room actually is. Am I right about that?
I personally would paint the walls a light color, a light cream or light tan. But that's probably because I'm not a big fan of gray.
BTW, I like that wall art too.

I have red couches (although a darker red) and recently painted my walls cream. I spent a lot of time agonizing finding the right "color" (I was going to paint it a dusty blue) and I chickened out and went with cream. It makes the red really "pop". It is about the same cream as the background of the abstract art you have - although it might just look that way in the picture.

It makes me think of red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.

So, I vote cream. Cream seems boring, but it makes the room look delicious... er, I mean, vibrant.

edited to add: my walls started off about the same color as yours are right now, too.

Personally I like your living room.. I would paint the dining room the same colour and accent it with gloosy and matt stripes of the same colour.
I would then paint a black frame on the wall around your artwork to make it really stand out and match the other frames on the opposite sides of the room!!
