So, I had a sort-of quilting bee for my birthday (sort-of because virtually none of us know what we're doing), and decided to make these cactus pincushions.  They are inspired by some in the background of a craft room redo I saw here, but I can't find the original post.  Sad  You know who you are. I'm sure there are easier ways to do this, but it was late and I was in a hurry.  I bought 4 sheets of 8x11 bright green felt and a pack of dark green mini rickrack.  The pots were 3 for $1 at Dollar Tree.  All in all, I made 9 of these babies for around $6.00!

This isn't strictly a tute, since I forgot to take photos after the first one, but all I did was
trace around the opening of one of the pots with chalk, then cut out the felt circle, then cut a strip of felt along the edge of another felt sheet. (I didn't measure the length since I just cut off the extra later.)  I sewed the strip to the circle's edge, then seamed it shut to make a sort of open barrel shape.  Turned it inside out, stuffed it nice and full, and then sewed 3 rickrack lengths (about 6 inches each) together in the middle, then brought them underneath and sewed them tight.  I hotglued the cacti into the pots, glued some flowers on top, and voila!  Took about 2 hours all told.  Don't forget to stick some pins in.  I'm thinking plain straight pins would look even better.

I don't care, I'm still free; you can't take the sky from me.

They are so cute! I think I need to make one for my sisters birthday - she would totally love that!

Too cute! I want one. Just have to figure out how to keep the cat from making a toy out of it....  Undecided
