By replacing it with a NEW AND IMPROVED!! World's Ugliest quilt.

My bestest friend was the recipient of one of my very first quilt projects. The one i am ashamed is out there in the world. The one i have tried to steal back from him (to destroy in the eternal flames of hell from whence it must have sprung to begin with) a few times and he has now taken to hiding it when i go to town to visit.

He claims since he lives in a basement he needs it because it is warm. I figure he is holding on to it because he likes to see me squirm in shame.
So I threw this together. I tried very hard to use all different fabrics.  There should have been 118 different fabrics. But i just COULDN't decide between the orcas and the porpoises... so the quilt goes by the moniker 117.  there is a cool muted plaid patterned flannel on the back and it is one of the few times i have splurged for cotton batting.  it is much larger than the old ugly one and much much warmer.

hopefully, when he gets this surprise in the mail he will take pity on my embarrassment and finally dispose of the abomination that taught me so much along the path of quilting.

Seeking scraps! I'm in need of a variety of white on white scraps. (2.5inch square minimum) for pixel quilts. Have any? Swap for? PM me! Smiley

I have a feeling he is going to keep his original "ugly" quilt and your new one shown!! I love patchy colorful random quilts like this...you are such a good friend and he will definitely be surprised and touched...but I bet he will NEVER give up the first quilt that his dear friend made him!

I'm another fan of scrappy-patchy quilts.  I know the shame though of having an ugly quilt out there...fortunately I kept my first two quilts, and I do love them for what I learned about quilting while making them... but I do cringe sometimes when I see them.

As for this one... it's just fun, it's the kind of thing to cuddle up with, or to take on a picnic.  This is the kind of quilt that actually gets USED and gets LOVED, so I like it a lot.  And I like the orcas too. =)

So to pay me back. Instead of respecting my wishes and destroying the original.  He has made a facebook group for it. Yeah, this is my best friend.   Grin
