She won a blue ribbon   Grin

I hope these pictures are alright. My camera is old and the quality is really lacking.

I read a book about India and all the fabulous artwork done by the people. I decided I wanted to have a door hanging and since I didn't have $1000.00 to spend I decided to make one myself. I started out with just a small drawing I made on a piece of white flannel. ( one of the elephants ) It grew from there. I taught myself how to sew on the mirror circles from a book I found at my local library. The stitches I chose had no rhyme or reason.

Thank you for looking at my door hanging.

Congratulations on winning!  This is absolutely beautiful.  How long did it take you to make? I am in awe.

This is beautiful. Tell us a bit about the various designs. Looks sort of part-Indian, part Pennsylvania Dutch.

I checked out books at the library on India. They had a picture of a wedding door hanging from the late 1800's. I really liked it and decided to try to make a piece of the pattern. I played around with material and floss and made an elephant. I didn't know what to do with it, so I made another one Roll Eyes A few months later, it turned into this. I almost never follow a pattern and usually make stuff up as I go. That is why this doorway hanging is a little bit of everything. Grin

I find the 'make-it-up-as-you-go' stuff are usually far more interesting than the 'copy-a-pattern' stuff.  This is really special.  Tell us more about the competition and prize that you won.

Humboldt! We need close ups so that we can adequately drool over this piece!  Wink

Amazing work! I'd love to hear more about why you chose those designs.
