So, I made these a long time ago for my hubby who is a major car guy.  He recently posted them on his toyota build thread, and I thought I'd give them some exposure here, too.

Such a great idea. So much nastiness gets down in the little crevices around the gear shift.

I showed my gear-head Fiance this pic and he is demanding his own for his racecar .

Wish I could take credit for the idea, but I was definitely commissioned to do this, haha.  I used the old shifter boots as a pattern, and it was very easy....which is good if they need replacing because it is such a dirty spot.

Racecar??  My guy would be jealous, I think   I'd love to see a pic if you make these!

These are cool. I made a shifter boot for my jeep out of hand dyed fabric & it came out great. I do have one suggestion, you may want to close the top of the boot w/string or something in case something small should accidentally fall inside the boot - it would really suck if a piece of jewelry or something valuable should get down there (you never know, it happened to my daughter w/the plastic part of the console & she lost a necklace down there).

Good point!  My husband actually needs these open because he is constantly taking the boots off because he is constantly working on the truck.  But, I would definitely close one for a family car (or mine for that matter!).

I made one! Thanks for the idea. Mine was fine, till my boyfriend's car died and he's been driving mine, my boot is made of some crap pleather or something, and he rests the palm of his hand on the emergency break cover, and it was pretty bare of the black pleather stuff, and mostly white and ratty looking, so I got some black duck cloth, and made a new one. Did you know pleather is a b**** to iron flat? This one had some rubber rings on each end to hold it in place, so that was fun to sew in without the aid of a cording foot, the zipper foot worked well though. Here are pictures.

Awesome, great job!!  The little roll at the end makes the stitching very clean, I wouldn't know this didn't come on your car!

I made a cover for my bro in laws home made (wood) center console for his now totalled (RIP) YJ out of some kind of car vinyl material.  Luckily, it was already flat and I didn't have to worry about ironing it.  With a car oriented family, I'm sure I'll be working with pleather some day....thanks for the tip!

This is actually made with duck cloth which I guess is the same thing as canvas, the emergency brake was pleather before and I spent a lot of time ironing it to use it for a pattern. If I remember right I think I ended up settling on using a handkerchief as the layer between it and the iron. I stupidly put the tip of the iron down on it for a second then it clicked you're not supposed to do that, so there's a mark on there now. haha

I want to play around with pleather too! I need a rock star for a friend. =D

Ah, the fabric did seem a bit too "flow-y" in the pic for pleather.

Not since high school, I think my ex stole my last pair of pleather pants. =/
