I havn't posted in awhile but I have been hooking as much as always. I started making a ton of cupcakes. I gave most of them away as gifts so this is the only one left except for the first one I made which is a pin cushion. The pattern is based off of the cupcake in amigurumi world.

Then after seeing Wayuki's Post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=336198.0 I was inspired to make sushi. I started with her pattern for Tamago (egg omelet) and made her Maki and Maguro (tuna) sashimi as well but I was using a heavier yarn and wasn't pleased with the results so I got some crochet thread and went crazy!

Below you can see Tamago (omelet), Ikura (salmon roe), Uni (sea urchin), Salmon, Tako (octopus) Ebi (cooked shrimp) and 2 Kappa Maki (cucumber). I used orange beads for the Ikura and was pleased with the results.

I love your cupcake!  I saw a crocheted cupcake in a yarn store years ago and fell in love.  I started one but got stuck on putting the top and bottom together.  I'll have to look up this pattern.

Your sushi is wonderful--so detailed and I like it so much better with the thinner yarn!

The Ikura is my favorite--the beads really add a lot of texture and the glisten like real fisheggs! Yum--almost good enough to eat!

I love them, especially the Ikura and shrimp Ebi! Did you use the same hook size when you switched to the crochet thread? What size thread? I was having the same problem trying it out with Sport wt but never thought of thread.

I don't remember what hook size Wayuki suggested but I used my most favorite hook size:2.75 mm. The thread is J&P Coats Royale Classic Crochet size 10 which is unfortunately not as common as size 3. The smaller sizes were TOO small for my liking and while this size does come in all the colors I wanted I can't find it locally in red. Size 7/1.5mm is suggested by the thread packaging but I didn't have one handy. The beads are size 6/0 "E" which I got at Michael's. I used about 75 beads on that Ikura working around 6 (i think) chains in an oval. I didn't use the beads on the base chain. After I had a few rows of beads I switched to black and when it was done I half-double crocheted a ring around both ends to make it stand better and make it took like the "eggs" were sitting inside the seaweed wrapper.

Cute! I love the Sushi.  You could totally catnip them up and make a kitty really happy Smiley
