Hi,

I thought it might be an idea for people to list must have craft books. It would help people like myself who have just started out on other crafts to expand their library with essential crafting books.

At the moment I have SNB Nation by Debbie Stroller. I don't have the first one as I think it is on a reprint over here but will buy it as soon as I can.

Stitch it Kit by Jenny hart which is a recent addition and I love it.

Cross Stitch Teddies by Joan Elliot which has lots of sweet teddy bear charts.

The best of Teresa Wentzler Fantasy Designs a good cross stitch book for fantasy or Teresa Wentzler fans.

The Snowman In Cross stitch by Leslie Norah Hills. This has a lot of great charts of scenes of the Snowman. Lots of ideas on how to use them and would make great Christmas gifts.

I have some more Cross stitch books but those are the best ones.

If you are still looking for books, I have 283 misc craft books, 126 craft leaflets that need a good home. If you want to pay postage or swap for supplies, I'd be happy to send them to you. d

Hi,

Thanks for the offer but I was really just looking for suggestions and thought the list would be useful to others too. It would be too expensive to post to here and I really don't have the space just now. Thanks anyway. I hope you are able to find a good home for them.

I can recommend Start Crochet by Jan Eaton:

http://tinyurl.com/c7ypc

This is a good book for a beginner to use if they want to learn crochet.  It starts with a section on equipment and materials, then clear descriptions (with both diagrams and photos) of all the steps involved in making the basic stitches.

The book goes on through projects that increase in complexity, starting with a nice chevron scarf, then a bag, and working through baby jumpers and colourful afghans (blankets) to beautiful, well explained wraps and jumpers.  Each project has at least 4 pages dedicated to it, with descriptions of the skills and stitches needed, plus photos, and instructions for the project itself.  It also features a library of geometric shapes - variations on the traditional granny square (including triangles, circles and hexagons) a range of lace stitches and edging motifs.
