Inspired by Elsie's DIY Celebrity Valentines(1), I decided to make something personal and pretty to hang on the wall for Valentines.

I selected family photos with good face shots & cropped them to focus on the head/neck. Then I traced each photo with a black fabric markers (I use the Crayola markers - you can find them in the aisle with children's crayons & markers), ironed the fabric to set the ink, cut and hemmed them into mini portraits.

For the rest of the garland, I cut a small pile of hearts from two 8.5/11" sheets of felt (pink and red).

Attatch the portraits with a teeny stitch in each top corner. For the portrait hearts, I used a simple blanket stitch to attach a larger heart behind the main heart, both for color and to give it more stability while holding the "portrait." Sew all the hearts together with a needle & some cranberry-colored embroidery floss and voila! Art on the wall for now, family memorabilia for later.
