Inspiration without application is moot.

I saw so many printed Valentine's Day flags and always ignored them. Until I had to face my growing fabric stash.  Roll Eyes What to do with all of that pink, white, red and more red? Make a pop of color of course!

If you happen to have a goofy kid around, be prepared to have them jump into the picture.

The goof in the picture is my son, who drilled the holes into the wooden rod, placed the eye-hooks into each end and hooked the chains onto the eye-hooks for me. The rod can be re-used for any other flags I make.

This flag was quite simple to make. I took one yard of red broadcloth, hemmed the sides and bottom and made a pocket for the wooden rod at the top. I freehanded the shape of the different hearts onto each piece of stash material and cut them out. I then placed the hearts on the red broadcloth and stitched them down with a small zig-zag stitch.

Hopefully this flag will last me for years if I take care of it and it was very inexpensive to make. The red broadcloth was the least expensive piece, $3, the cost of the rest of the material might add up to $7 total. So I have a nice red flag to celebrate V-Day for years to come.

Thanks for looking,

Yay for stash busting!

Kudos to your son for helping out, what a lucky mom you are!

Are the hearts just cotton? Let me know how it holds up during your snowy weather. I've been wanting to make some new mini flags but I didn't think anything in my stash would hold up to well.

It is a lovely, brigth way to celebrate. I like the way you Americans use flags on your porches.

Yep, as you can see, it is the only thing not white out here right now. Even after melting, I think we still have 8 inches. Cheesy We usually have none.
