I'm way too happy about this coat, I made a lot of mistakes but it's one of the better things I have made.
I didn't take a picture of it but it has this wonderful silver Kasha Lining in it.
It's made from Simplicity 2508, great pattern!

I'm sorry for the picture of the back, I didn't notice it was lopsided on the dress form.

What kind of material is the white?
I think it looks really great, but I'd love to see it on you.

I consider myself to still be around the beginner area, it's a different type of pattern but it's not too hard! If you do decide to do it, best of luck!

It's from the 'Kashmir Collection' I believe, I've been trying to find it online for someone but it doesn't seem to be there. It's 100% poly and it's almost like a very thick fleece.
I know, I tried to get fully body pictures but I just couldn't line up the camera properly enough to get the whole coat in it.

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments guys!

It was pretty good but I confused myself because of how different the sleeve is. Notice how the sleeve is also the shoulder? My mind could not conceive that for the longest time XD
Since it's project runaway I got a little confused with the amount that I needed to cut out but once you've got that done, it's pretty straightforward.

Apostice, you have inspired me! I have been sitting on a coat pattern for almost two years. I haven't made myself a single piece of clothing since 8th grade, and I am pretty freaked out to do so. But I think sometime before next winter, I am going to take the plunge. What a wonderful coat!  Wink

The black buttons on the white are so bold, and the funnel neck collar very cool. I can imagine this pattern in lots of different fabrics, but the white would be the most striking - gorgeous!

I actually went out and got the pattern ( BTW hancock fabric is having a sale on simplicity patterns, 5 for $5 ).  Im REALLY new at patterns and i have no idea how many yards this takes... can ya tell me about how many u used?  Huh

I actually had to go back and get more fabric because I bought too little the first time. The worst part of this pattern (aside from the buttons) is figuring out how much you need, if I do it again I will always get more than I need.

I don't remember exactly how much I got but I tried to lay it out this way for you, hope it helps. Feel free to double check it as well

I did the short coat with front c,d (1 7/8 yd), long sleeves (1 yd), & Collar (3/4 yd)

For the lining for coat (1 3/8 yd), sleeve (1 yd)

For interfacing for coat (4 3/4 yds), collar (3/4 yard)

(I am from Canada & am used to meters, this is hard XD)

I totally hit "THIS ROCKS" because it does! I think it is the most awesomest thing too that you consider yourself a beginner and attacked this project like a piranha on a hot dog!

I think I have that pattern... is it from the project runway series?

I never use patterns, but saw that one and snagged it... is it easy for someone that has no idea how to use a pattern??

I wouldn't call it easy, I usually go off the pictures myself but I really did have trouble with certain parts. If you have the pattern try taking a look at it and seeing if you can understand it. If not maybe try bringing the instructions with you to your local fabric store during the off time of the day and they might be able to help you do understand it.

I didn't mean easy like easy to make - I can sew pretty efficiently, but would you have been able to understand the pattern without having sewn with one before?

I was talking about the pattern, it's not an easy pattern to understand. It is aimed at people who have sewn with patterns before. I think you could probably figure it out with aid from the pictures but I can't tell you for sure, if you already have the pattern then go for it!

Looks great! I'm actually working on a coat using this pattern right now~ :DD Pretty much the same way you did, except i used the sleeve bands instead. Mine's gonna be dark purple microsuede with silver buttons and zipper piping :3 way too ambitious, but whatever. xD

The sleeves confused me too, but hopefully I will figure it out when it comes time to sew. so far i've only found doing the pockets confusing, heh.

Anyhoo, if you don't mind, one critique I would have is to give it a good steam and iron. Two tools I have found amazingly helpful are what are called Hams.  Tongue There is two kinds, one shaped like a ham (hehe) for curved seams, and another that's like a... sausage (i can't think of another word ._.) that you can use on straight seams and sleeves. They make ironing so much easier.  They're inexpensive too, somewhere between 7-10 dollars.
