Maybe it wasn't such a great idea to use hand knit socks but I found them at the thrift store and they just called out "Sock Elephant!" to me so I went for it. You have to be very careful when you're cutting and stuffing and stitching a sock creature made out of hand knit but in the end I think it turns out well worth the effort. Look how cute she is!

Her eyes are just slightly different colours, one is more green, one more blue.

I got some good curvature on the trunk with a bit of stitching. I like the button joint on her arms, gives her some mobility. I don't usually do it that way but I think I might start, for creatures that aren't for babies at least. And put that needle sculpting practice to good use on her snout. This is a really sweet feature in person, it's like a worry stone, you know? I keep rubbing it with my finger. Feels like she's giving me a kiss  Kiss

The ears are cut out of the heel, the part used for a mouth on sock monkeys. I cut it in half and serged the edge though I might blanket stitch it because that looks nicer. It's got a good natural curve already but I did pleat the middles twice for even more.

I found another pair of hand knit socks at the thrift store in pretty good shape aside from holy heels. I managed to work around that design flaw and create

SockBunny! Actually made during an Easter trip to see relatives, how fun is that?

The kids wouldn't let me give this one away,

I thought it looked like she was made from socks but she also looked handknit. Now I know why! Cheesy So cute! You did a great job. I'm not sure I would have had the patience for it.

That's just wonderful, did you follow a pattern or make it up as you went along? Either way, it's just so adorable.

Thanks guys!

She's stuffed with regular old fiberfil, that's all I ever use though I was collecting scraps of fleece to stuff things with at one point. Wonder where that went? Lost in the stash I guess.

It didn't take any longer than a regular sock monkey, about 3 hours or so. I just had to be careful while I was doing it. I love how she looks hand knit too, I might do that again with thrift store socks I find.

I didn't use a pattern, I hardly ever do. Just the basic instructions for a sock monkey but a trunk instead of a tail and ears from the heel piece instead of making that into a mouth. She's got a braided embroidery thread tail on her bum too.

I think she might become my first Toy Society drop, she's pretty great so I think whoever found her would like her a lot. If you don't know what the Toy Society is please look it up, I'd link you too it but I'm on dial up so each page takes forever to load. It's a great idea for spreading crafty love and random acts of kindness. Join in and spread the word!
