Every Christmas my sons' school holds a craft bazaar for the children, and I use every spare moment in the weeks beforehand making things to sell. I was given a big bag of corks, so I tried to think of something to do with them. One of my little boys likes drawing faces on corks and playing with them, which gave me an idea. I ended up crocheting 'skins' that would fit over the corks, with holes for faces.

I started with knights, crocheting their armour and sewing on a little shield:

I ended up making a whole army:

I also made a couple of ninjas:

I then decided to make Father Christmas:

That led on to gnomes, a similar shape with the hats and beards:

For a bit of variation I made the hole into a mouth, colouring the cork red where it shows through, and did these little Space Bugs:

I used buttons for eyes for some of them:

If anyone's interested, I will try and write up the patterns.

This defenately rocks!
I really would like to make them for my son (and for me  Grin), so I;d certainly be interested in a pattern! (especially for the knights)

an army of cork knights? Cork aliens? Gnomes? Ninjas? I just can't believe how even after a while on craftster something crocheted can still surprise me that much! They're so cute! So funny! This rocks!
I knew I was keeping that corks for a purpose! I am in love with any of these cork guys and need to make some!
Thanks for another awesome mini crochet, they're all so cute, but these must be my favourites! Great work again!

I love them!  Especially the knights and the aliens.  You always come up with such creative ideas for your Christmas Bazaar, I'm sure your son's school is ecstatic to have you participate.

I'm definitely interested in patterns, though I have no idea where to find corks. Smiley

Thanks guys! I must say I was really pleased when I worked these out (and don't worry, I will write up the patterns, probably tomorrow). Using the corks means you don't have to stuff them, the only problem is getting corks in the first place (well, it might not be a problem for some people!) I believe you can get unused corks, but that rather spoils the recycling/cheap element.
